I’m Louise Tait, a residential interior designer and artist based in Warwick, in Queensland’s Southern Downs.
I grew up as one of six children and spent much of my childhood around building sites. My Dad owned a building company and, throughout the 1970s and 80s, my parents renovated and sold homes long before house flipping had a name.
Being part of a large family taught me early that a home needs to work hard. It has to make room for noise, routines, togetherness and those rare moments of quiet.
My path has moved in and out of the building world, across both residential and commercial projects, with art always running alongside it.
I had my own art studio and taught art for nearly five years before returning to study later in life, exploring ceramics, painting and printmaking. Yet somehow, I found myself drawn back to the building world once again.
Today, I see these not as separate careers, but as two parts of the same story. My experience in the building industry and my interior design background give me a practical understanding of how spaces come together, while my art training shapes the way I see colour, texture, scale, composition and light.
Interior design is where my two passions find a harmonious balance, bringing structure and creativity, practicality and feeling, into the homes I create.
Homes with history
I have a soft spot for old Queenslanders and workers’ cottages. The VJ walls, original panelled doors and worn timber carry a character that’s grown over years of everyday living.
That sense of belonging matters to me in any home, whatever its age. When I design, I look at what gives your home its character, what you love about it and what needs to change to support the way you live now.
Collected over time
An old timber chair, a handmade bowl, a painting brought home from a holiday. These are the pieces that make a home feel like yours.
I love bringing antiques and collected objects into a room alongside contemporary pieces. The variation in age, texture and finish gives a space depth and personality.
You don’t need to start again with everything new. Often, the starting point is something you already own and love. My role is to help you see how it can belong in the next chapter of your home.
